Lunar New year 2023

This year, Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac, which assigns different animals to years over a 12-year cycle. In many parts of the world, January 22nd marks the start of a new year. Lunar New Year is celebrated widely throughout East Asia and marks the beginning of spring and the start of a new lunar cycle. The children at Pre-school took part in several activities to celebrate including, acting out ‘The great race: The story of the Chinese Zodiac, matching gold coins to lucky red envelopes, writing Chinese numbers in rice using chop sticks, making drums and dragons.

Some children created a new game using the climbing frame by rolling wheels down the slide and seeing how far it would go into the other room. They then added tunnel to see if it would go through.

Introducing the idea of junk modelling the children started off by choosing one box and taping it to another, it’s work in progress! We also played the sock game, trying to guess what was hidden in the sock, and planting beans in a jam jar so that the children can watch it grow.
